In Apulia, the mechanical engineering sector - particularly mechatronics – is well-established throughout the region and in fact it has grown so much that it is now of international importance. Companies operating in this field have a very high demand for skilled and specialised workers. StartNet Italy is developing the Skills Camp project with teachers of vocational schools of Apulia and of Germany, businesses and the Union of Chambers of Commerce for the Apulia Region to offer more opportunities to young people in the region and to tackle the mismatch between offer and demand for employees.

The project promotes vocational training in industrial mechanic and metal processing. It includes

  • training for the trainers
  • comparing and adapting German vocation training courses to the Italian vocational curricular programme in Apulia
  • an exchange for trainers and trainees

The project is a partnership between Camera di Commercio Puglia, Confindustria Puglia, vocational schools specialised in mechatronics, the Inter-university Department of Physics "Michelangelo Merin" of Bari, the Goethe-Institut Rom, the BIBB (German Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training) and ANPAL Servizi (Italian Agency for Active Employment Policies).

The project will start in June 2019.
